Lakeland University junior Emily Grzesiak is studying abroad in London this summer, the first Muskie to participate in Lakeland in London, a partnership between LU and the Foundation for International Education (FIE).
Grzesiak is taking coursework and serving an internship in the accounting and finance department of a marketing firm as part of the eight-week summer program. She is an accounting major, and plans to earn her bachelor’s degree and master of business administration in four years.
She’s also finding time to explore London and travel with other study abroad students. She’s writing a blog about her experiences that you can follow here.
FIE is a London-based international educational organization that has partnered with nearly 60 U.S. colleges and universities.
The new London program is one of several study abroad options for Lakeland students. LU also offers programming at its campus in Tokyo, Japan, as well as in Luxembourg and Dublin. Faculty led study abroad trips includes a tropical studies course in Belize offered every other year. Learn more about all offerings at Lakeland.edu/studyabroad.
Grzesiak is living and learning at FIE’s Kesington Campus in London, situated within walking distance of London’s fabled Hyde Park and Royal Albert Hall, among other points of interest.
Coursework includes learning British culture, business, history and the UK’s role in the greater world. Students also select from a variety of electives courses from a wide range of topics. Credits taken as part of this program do count toward a student’s Lakeland degree.
Students can apply their state and federal financial aid to this study abroad experience, and FIE has made one $2,000 scholarship available to a Lakeland student per year.
Upon returning to Lakeland this fall, Grzesiak, who is also a member of Lakeland’s volleyball team, will serve as Lakeland’s FIE Global Ambassador, sharing her experience with other students interested in study abroad experiences.
