Phi Delts keep 'Giving Tree' tradition alive

Continuing a decades-long tradition, Lakeland’s Phi Delta Omega sorority is once again sponsoring a Christmas Giving Tree, an initiative that will make one Sheboygan family’s holiday season warmer.

The Phi Delts, working with the Salvation Army, have adopted a local family in need, and hope to donate gifts – most of which are necessities many of us take for granted – through the Giving Tree.

This year’s adopted family consists of a father and mother, a 13-year-old boy, a 7-year-old boy and a soon-to-be-born baby girl who is due on Christmas day.

The Phi Delts’ Giving Tree is located in the Campus Center, and will be up until the end of finals week. On the tree are ornaments with small pieces of paper attached that describe each of the requested gifts.

Gift donations can be dropped off at the base of the tree, where they will be picked up regularly throughout the day, or they can be given to any active Phi Delta Omega sister. Cash donations are also accepted. Contact Nicole Cox at coxn [AT] lakeland [DOT] edu or Tia Pribbernow at pribbernowt [AT] lakeland [DOT] edu to donate.

To help fund a very special purchase for the Giving Tree, the sorority is selling candy cane grams ($1 or a canned good) and Christmas carols ($5) to purchase a bicycle for the 7-year-old.
