Lakeland University students continue to shine in their involvement with The Commons, a unique initiative that pairs creative students with companies and entrepreneurs.
Tuesday night in Milwaukee, six Lakeland students presented during Demo Day, which has the Spring Skills Accelerator students present their final pitches at the We Energies Auditorium. It was a packed house with more than 300 people on hand to hear their ideas.
David Del Ponte and Hannah Scherer were finishing up their second time participating in The Commons, while Aaron Barth, Brianna Buzzell, Joey McNaught and Shari Kassube finished up their first experience.
The students were part of teams with peers from other Wisconsin colleges and universities. Each team in The Commons is made up of students with different skills sets, who work together to develop real world ideas. Teams meets for nine weeks in the evening for workshops, leading up to Tuesday’s Demo Day. A Facebook photo gallery recapping the event is here.
On April 21, three Lakeland students – Kassube, Savannah Stenlund and RonniJo Nigro – participated in the Kohler Commons Hack-it-Bracket at Jake's Café in Sheboygan. This day-long event was open to students in any major and challenged them to work with like-minded students to turn an idea into reality. After a morning of ideation exercises, the teams dove deep in the afternoon to get to work.
Stenlund was part of the winning team, and Kassube was part of the team that finished third.

The Commons markets itself as a think tank for talented student “hustlers, hackers, hipsters and handlers.” These fun descriptions are for people who possess unique talents in the areas of information technology, graphic arts, marketing and accounting, respectfully.
