A generous group of Lakeland University-Chippewa Valley Center students, faculty and staff recently teamed up for an impressive act of community service.
More than a dozen Muskies joined forces with The Community Table to help nourish hungry bodies and boost spirits in the Chippewa Valley. Lakeland instructor Steve Roelse and 12 additional LU volunteers served hot food to those in need and raised $280 in donations for Eau Claire, Wis.-based The Community Table.
“Steve put this together, and he did an excellent job,” said Jim Miklesh, director of the Lakeland Chippewa Valley Center. “It’s always great to get involved in the community and give back. That’s what Lakeland is all about.”
Following the event, Roelse praised his Core III students in an email.
“I thank each of you for all you do in this world that promotes cooperation over conflict, and for doing so armed with the knowledge of how important it is to assist others rise as high in the ‘Hierarchy of Needs’ as we can,” Roelse wrote.
“What all of you showed … was a wonderful role modeling experience for those who will carry the torches further. We are all in the same boat, so we do our best when we row together. Thanks for jumping aboard!!!”
