Lakeland hosts National History Day regional

Nearly 300 students from 11 area high schools and middle schools gathered Saturday on the Lakeland College campus for National History Day’s Wisconsin East Central Regional competition.

Participating high schools were Sheboygan North, Kohler, Oshkosh North and Random Lake. Middle schools represented were Horace Mann, Urban and Lake Country Academy (Sheboygan); Carl Traeger, Merrill and Webster Stanley (Oshkosh) and Wilson (Manitowoc).

The event, sponsored by the Wisconsin Historical Society, featured a wide range of student exhibits, documentary competitions, papers and group performances.

An awards ceremony in Lakeland’s Bradley Theatre capped the day’s celebration of history.

“Really, everything was awesome,” said Sarah Fallon, state coordinator of National History Day in Wisconsin. “When we went looking for a site for this new contest, Lakeland College offered – without hesitation and with great enthusiasm. It was a fun and meaningful experience for young historians from the area, and we can’t wait to be back in 2017.”
